He was a figure of enigma when he appeared in the village one day. Visitors from the big cities come and go. He appears at night, and wherever Leanne is, he is there when she turns her back around, and there he was where she can see him.
At first, he was very subtle and kept his distance. He has long black hair tied up with a hair ornament and pin, fair skin, and wearing a blindfold around his eyes. He's wearing a white robe with long billowing sleeves. He wears like people do in ancient times while everyone else wear modern clothes. Silent as the bright moon and stars at night, but as gentle as the spring breeze and the wind, he as mysterious for his handsomeness and beauty. When he speaks, he has a soft voice, almost song-like.
He plays a guitar and if she listens, he was singing to her. Sometimes, the songs sung by the villagers from the pubs. Some songs are love songs that he sings in his language and eventually, love songs he learns hearing over the radio in her language. Over time, she'll find his gifts, his tokens in places where she can find them. Flowers, jewelry, sweets, dolls of her favorite animals, and sometimes, envelops of money with bills and he leaves just enough to help her pay her bills, things that he somehow reads her mind in what she likes and what she needs, and not once he spoken a word other than the songs he sings to her.
Once she turns and looks at his way, he stops singing, playing his guitar, and smiles softly at her. "I'm Xingchen." He said.
Leanne was a simple tea seller and farmer in the village. She owned a simple shop and would always head back to her family's farm once she sold everything or it became closing time. On the farm, she lived in a separate house from everyone else so that she could live independently and privately, but remained close to her family. She had multiple suitors as she was the mayor's daughter and despite the dirt and grime on her, she was one of the top beauties within their village.
But then, one day... A mysterious man appeared and he was everywhere she was. A man who only came out at night and wore ancient clothing. At first, Leanne thought that he was sometype of actor, trying to get into a mindset of a character, but soon, she learns that it was how he normally dressed.
There were times, she has stopped to listen to his songs, finding herself blushing as it dawned on her that he was singing to her, even when a suitor was around to try and pull her attention away from him. The love songs soon came and she was finding herself day-dreaming about the night so she can hear another song. When the gifts came, she really didn't know what to do! There was jealousy as she kept all of his gifts, squealing at the dolls. This mystery man... Without really sharing any words between the two of them, has managed to win her heart more than any other suitor.
One night, she goes to look his way more. Wanting to be in his presence more. It surprised her when he suddenly stops playing his guitar, smiling and speaks for the first time.
"I... I am Leanne. So, that is what you sound like, Xingchen."
Xingchen is blind, but he knows what she looks like. He can sense her anywhere and everywhere when he wants to be, appears to her in her dreams when she sleeps at night, but like a phantom, he vanished the moment she wakes up before morning.
He finally smiles, "You finally see me. What I would give for a single glance from you." He lowers his guitars down and makes a bow. His voice is clear and sweet male with a deep tone.
"Forgive me for not introducing myself. I don't know how else to approach you and come to you. And I tend to be generous with my gifts, so I think I overdid."
He looked familiar. She could swear that he looked like the man of her dreams. But he was so much more beautiful in real life.
Leanne blushes a little at his words as well as his bow, suddenly feeling ashamed for not noticing him sooner. "My apologies, I... I guess that my attention was pulled away from you. You shall have my attention for at least a few moments now." It was the least she can do.
"All those gifts... So they were from you, none of my other suitors laid any claim to them... I loved them. Thank you, they were rather generous." And here, she moves closer to try and give him a kiss on the cheek. "But you don't have to give me money like that. I am still grateful as it helped a lot." A small sigh. "Tell me about yourself."
"Mn. They came from me." He confirmed. It's hard to tell his expression with his blindfold covering his eyes.
"You can keep it. In the dreams we shared, I can sense your worry over the bills. I like the smiles you have and feelings of happiness you have when you wake up, when you have enough."
At her offer, "Nothing much to tell. I'm a musician, so your parents won't be impressed by me if I meet them. I would like to spend time with you over dinner and coffee perhaps, and your number so we can keep in touch and hang out."
"... You can see my dreams?" They shared dreams? There was something romantic about it. She wanted to see him under the blindfold. To see his eyes and expressions.
"I am in your debt for your generosity, Xingchen." He saved her so many times from debt collectors with his gifts of money and then gave her great happiness and joy with the smaller gifts.
"You already know of such things? You are quite mysterious~ I would love to go out to dinner and a coffee with you." She giggles out. "If you give me your phone then I can put my number in it."
"It's a strange power I have. I specialized in a magic where I can dreamwalk into dreams and memories. Your memories are always your own." He explains. "One day, I'll show you more what dreams are made up."
He shakes his head, hearing the gratitude in her voice. "It's no problem." Money doesn't mean anything to him. It's her happiness and the joy of lifting her burden. For he's a creature that lives a long time.
"Sure." He tells her the number and collects her on his phone. "We can go now if you have time. If not, there's tomorrow night."
"Power? Like in some sort of fantasy story?" Okay, she doesn't quite believe him. But still, it helped give him the air of mystery. "How many others dreams have you walked in?" She is at least knowledgeable enough to know that she isn't the only one. "I would love to hear about it."
"It is still a lot of money just to give without asking for anything in return." And he certainly didn't look as rich as he was.
She puts his number into her phone before giving hers and making sure it was on his phone. "I have nothing but time to kill."
Humans don't know much of the magical world that lives side by side with them. "Yes, something like that. I'm a wizard you see." He said mildly, but his comes with a darker power. Talking about himself, he suddenly felt parched and thirsty.
"Magic is real and it's not just a fantasy story." He figured she doesn't believe him, but he speaks of with truth. That's his explanation of showing up in her dreams. "I can tell you a little bit about it if you like." To help her understand.
"I do want something from you, but not much. All I ask is for you to spend time with me." He smiles. "Just a walk to a coffee shop and a cup of coffee with sweets." Coffee won't satisfy his thirst, but for now, it will do. He can restrain his thirst more important to him is her trust.
"A wizard?" Okay, maybe it was just a fancy name for a magician to him. She doesn't know of his darker power or his thirst.
He sounded so serious when relaying thst his magic was real and his serious was making her pause to give it more thought. "Yes, I would like to hear more about it. It just seems so fantastical."
"Spend time with you? I can do that. I... I would like to know you better as well." She finds herself blushing even more at the sight of his smile as well as her heart beat racing. "Do you have a place in mind, Xingchen?"
He doesn't want hide who or what kind of person he is. Harming her is far from his intent. He sees her innocence and curiosity. For now, the wizard is correct and a ruse of his nature.
"Yes, I was able to wield different of magic. It is fantastical. One day, I'll show you and it's wonderful."
Ah, his own heart doesn't beat anymore. He is one of the undead. He kept himself alive on the blood of others he fed in the past to fuel his magic and powers.
"The coffee shop near the main square. That's the busiest district in town with the malls and department stores." He offers his pale hand, somewhat clawed, and it will be cool to the touch.
He was so mysterious and with him around, the world seemed to have faded away. The fact the they had the same dreams made her a bit more at ease with him.
"I cannot wait until that time. I guess that means we will have to see each more and more often."
"Perhaps after the coffee,, we can go shopping if we have time." She doesn't noticed anything odd about him, that is until he offers her his hand. "Oh! You are cold. Here, let me do this for you." She lets go of his hand in order to hold his arm against her and she goes to walk close to him, trying to use her body heat to warm him up.
"I would like to..." Then he trails off, with a low laugh. "Well, I can't see you. But I would like to meet you more often and hang out." Part of him accepts if she simply wanted to be friends, then he civilized enough to leave her out of the menu. Her trust and friendship is important to him.
It's a simple date for now. AS they walk side by side through the town where the shops and stores are at. "I would be happy to go shopping with you." Besides his constant thirst, this feeling of her company fulfills him just as much.
"Oh no, no, it's not cold. It's a little cool." But holding her warm hands is just as nice and...it's become nicer when they share a brief hug. Up close, she can see his perfect face and long black hair.
He never hug a girl before, so this is nice. So he hugs her briefly back to see if she's comfortable with it. "Pick any coffee shop and I'll gladly pay the tab." He offered since he reads it's often a man who pays for the date, so he'll pay whatever she wants. "Whatever you want."
She blinks and gives him a small playful push. "You know what I mean." She giggles out, even if they are friends for now. He already has the highest chance of winning her love and affection to go beyond friendship out of all her suitors.
This date, even if it is a simple date, it will be fun as she found her fondness for him. "I would love that too."
She feels her face heating up and her heart racing as she takes a look at the sight of his perfect face. How... How could such a beautiful man be interested in her? She found herself getting lost in his beauty.
She was definitely comfortable with him hugging her back. Her heartbeat ringing in her ears. She found herself entertaining the idea to bring him home after their date. "You have already bought me so many things... And help me with my bills... But just a simple latte will be enough for me."
"Latte it is." He just wants an easy night and keeps it a simple date, where it just a cup of coffee and chatting. Slowly, he lets her go, letting his arms fall at his side.
He smiles easily and cheerfully. He's charming even with the blindfold over his eyes. He has a feeling she has his eyes on him, his heartbeats steadily, and he could see her in his mind that she's a beauty herself, and he would like to entertain whatever fantasy she has of him once he knew of them.
But coffee first. "Your voice is easy and nice to listen to." He has good hearing, so he could follow her steps and the sound of her voice, walking with unhurried pace right behind her until they arrived at the coffee shop and he could smell the aromatic coffee in the air once inside the shop.
"Oh, for me, I'll have the mocha with the chocolate." He said, as he blindly goes inside and he probably needs some help figuring out where's the line where to take their order at the register. Behind the counter, the baristas can be seen making coffee.
An easy night. Yes, that would be perfect for now as this was just a simple date to start getting to know one another.
Her cheeks never lost their soft blush as he continues to lay the charm on her, even unintentional charm. This beautiful man... She was still lost in his beauty as they walk. Her fantasy? She doesn't know one yet but one will be built and soon.
But before any fantasy, she will have to know the answer to one question. Why her? Why did he pick her to shower such gifts and affections on?
Her heart beat increases and her blush deepens at his compliment about her voice. "Th-Thank you. Your voice is comforting." She keeps her footsteps slow, often looking back behind her to make sure that he was still following her. A part of her, wanting to reach behind and take his hand to help guide him but... He seems to be doing fine on his own.
"A mocha with the chocolate? That sounds good, I might steal a sip of yours." She tries to flirt a little with him as she opens the door for the both of them. She can see the multiple lines and even though he seemed to be doing just fine on his own, she reaches over to take his hand to hold while they wait in line.
A good coffee will not warm his cold body up and can only slake his thirst for a while. "I like different types." He said.
He's not sure how long he can keep up his appearance as a charming gentleman. While he has no intent to completely deceive her, but part of the fun is playing with his prey. The blindfold hides his reddish-brown eyes, but he has some confidence he can keep his hungry, monstrous side at bay as she might be easy to follow his desires and manipulate her by showering her with expensive gifts, affections, and keeping her company.
He follows her, sensing her invitation. His shadow on the wall is tall and dark like a looming darkness. A wisp of it is reaching for her ankles and wrists to keep his prey close to him within his distance so she wouldn't run. With his mind, he manipulates tendril of shadows gently runs down her arm and shoulders, some tugs at her hair but when she looks back the tendrils retreats back to his shadow and she'll see nothing, but she will see him behind her just holding her hand.
Her attempts flirting is cute, but it wasn't necessary for him. He waits for her to fall a little deeper and have fun. After all, he won't be satisfied if the evening ended too quick and fast. A little movie or show if she wanted to see would be warming to his heart.
He paid the tab as he promised once they reach the clerk and paid for her cakes if she wanted to go with it. He drank his coffee. The rather coffee passed his fangs kept hidden at bay, the taste is kind pale and bland. Hiding his disappointment at the flavor and taste, he continues to smile in grace, "Tea is good too. Coffee is usually best with milk and sugar but mix in with some liquor and it would taste amazing."
"What would you like to go see? A movie? A show? Surely your town has something special for a tour to see and experience. I'm not from around here, you see. I travel far and to many places." Which is obvious as to how he is being dressed.
She giggles at his answer. "Then I guess I will have see all the types and figure out which is your favorite." He was fun, almost too much fun.
But, she doesn't know the danger she was in being around him. Bow he truly sees her as. A small shiver runs down her spine as the trindrils touched her, her free hand idly moving to smooth her hair as she looks back at him. That... That was odd. Perhaps it was just her imagination or her mind playing tricks from stress.
By the time they ordered and he paid the tab, she protested a little finding herself blushing quite a bit as they head to the seats. It was hard to focus on anything but the beautiful man before her and just how elegant and graceful he was being.
"I could have paid... you already bought me so many things." But then he mentions tea and she perks up quite a but. "Creating teas is a hobby of mine. Perhaps next time we can try and couple of mine." If he was still in the village.
At his question, she goes to ponder for a moment. "Our biggest draw is the Harvest festival. Where we celebrate the harvest for the year so it becomes like a giant farmers market. It is also one of the main times where a man woos the one they have their eye on by asking her to dance with him at the very end of the festival. We also have a cute little movie theater which we never know what is playing during the week."
A small brief thought as she realizes that she might have bored him a little. "We can head there after our coffee to see what they are playing if you like. But I would love to hear about your travels."
"I didn't mind paying. You can have much as you like as much as you want. It's on me." Money is never an issue for him. His own vault is practically limitless from living for centuries, procuring art and fine living. His own manor, one of many properties he purchased in this country, is a thousand of miles away as he travels out of boredom.
His smiles is cheerful one, elegant lips curled, easy and help another feel relax. It's only tempting that he craves the heat of her blood, and he wonders what is like to bite her and drink to ease his cravings, but there's no rushing as there's no thrill if there's no flavor and that would be a waste.
For now, he enjoys the tension as he appears as calm as the night. "How very rural. I find your town very enchanting. I could imagine what the farms look like." His prey is a classic country girl, so he could imagine how sweet she'll be if he gains her trusts. "The movie theatre sounds fine. Let's head over there and see what they have." As he intends to make this a normal date tonight.
He isn't bored at all as he follows her perfectly at her, steps graceful, his shadow decided to behave and looks exact in his posture and movements. "I travel to many different places. I can tell you many stories. To the far plains of Asia and their mountains even to the deserts of the middle East. Forgotten libraries lost and hidden with secret knowledge known by a few." By few, he meant other vampires and their clans.
He continues to follow her until the movie theater is in sight. "What were they showing tonight?"
"It wouldn't feel right if I just let you pay for everything." She suspects that money was no issue judging by the gifts he keeps on giving her. "I will get it next time."
Just in case this date didn't end in a total disaster. It was hard to imagine with how calm he is as well as the elegance he gives off.
She was still unaware of his darker intentions, the unease and tensions was nearly unbearable. "Well the farms here look like any other type of farms one might see. We may be rural but you will never see a village quite as close as ours. We all have each other's backs here."
The conversation was a nice distraction from the feeling of unease she can't seem to shake off. "Oh? I would love to hear about them one day." The mentioning of wanting to go to the movies makes her smile.
"Alright but I will get the tickets. It's only the first date afterall!" She winks at him before taking his hand to go to the movies.
There was only a small selection and one that just makes her tilt her head. "It looks like there are some weird looking ones. One is The Shape of Water, Twilight and Lady Hawk. Nothing really new it seems."
